W MU FU-06 November 2006
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.07
test results is included in Table 4. Detailed results of the clay liner material testing
are included in Appendix D.
Modified Proctor (ASTM D-1557): Vector's CQA Monitor performed six (6) moisture-
density relationships (ASTM D-1557) for compaction references, which corresponds
to a frequency of one per 4,330 cy and satisfies the required frequency of 1 per 5,000
cy. A summary of test results is shown in Table 4. Results of these tests are
included in Appendix D.
Moisture and Density Testing: The CQA Monitor recorded 172 passing in-place unit
weights (ASTM D-2922) and in-place moisture contents (ASTM D-3017) during the
compaction of the clay liner. The total number of passing tests recorded
corresponds to a frequency of 1 per 150 cy, which satisfies the minimum required
frequency of 1 per 250 cy. In addition, grab samples were collected at the density
test locations for oven moisture determination. The oven moisture contents were
compared to the nuclear gauge moisture contents. The oven moisture contents were
within acceptable range of the nuclear gauge moisture contents. Oven moisture
contents (ASTM D-2216) were performed at the specified frequency of 1 per
2,500 cy. Areas that failed to meet the acceptable compaction were reworked and/or
replaced and retested until a passing result was achieved. Summaries of the field
moisture/density testing and test locations are included in Appendix D.
Density Verification: To verify the in situ density by the nuclear gauge, the wet
density values obtained by the nuclear gauge were compared to the wet density
determined from the sand cone tests. Ten (10) sand cone tests were conducted at a
frequency on 1 per 2,600 cy, which meets the specified frequency of 1 per 5,000 cy.
Results of the density testing conducted by the sand cone method are included in
Appendix D.
Vector Engineering,Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley,CA 95945-(530)272-2448
-14-
