Northern Portion of WMU FU-06 August 2006
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.07
The solid 3-inch HDPE pipe protrudes through the berm with a clay plug around
the pipe and a HDPE pipe boot welded to the geomembrane on the berm creating
the proper containment around the pipe. Vector's CQA Monitor inspected the clay
plug and boot and found the installation to be in accordance with the technical
specifications. The leachate will be conveyed from the northern portion of WMU FU-
06 through an above-ground solid 3-inch HDPE pipe down the northern slope of
WMU FU-06 into a temporary tank. Once the remainder of WMU FU-06 is
completed, leachate will be redirected from the temporary tank to the leachate
collection system for the base liner of WMU FU-06.
Prior to and during placement, Vector's CQA Monitor obtained samples of the
granular and coarse rock material and tested it for particle size (ASTM D-422) and
hydraulic conductivity (ASTM D-2434). The granular and coarse gravel materials
were tested at the specified frequency or greater and found to meet the
requirements of the specifications. The results of the laboratory testing conducted
on the drainage rock are presented in Table 1 and are also included in Appendix E.
TABLE 1
DRAINAGE MATERIAL PERMEABILITY
SAMPLE NUMBER PERMEABILITY
GRANULAR LAYER SPECIFICATION >0.1 CWVSEC
GDM-01
(Vernalis 3/8"x#8) 3.5
GDM-02 11 cm/sec
GDM-03. 8 cm/sec
GDM-04 8 cm/sec
COARSE GRAVEL SPECIFICATION > 1 CNVSEC
CGM-01
(Vernalis 3/4"xl/2") >10 cm/sec
Once the Contractor placed the granular drainage material, Vector's CQA Monitor
verified the thickness by potholing and measuring the depths on an approximate
Vector Engineering,Inc.•143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley, CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-14-
