The integrity and effectiveness of the groundwater monitoring system will be <br /> maintained by conducting regular inspections of the system and reviewing field <br /> data for indication of malfunction. Inspections will be conducted concurrent with <br /> sampling and water-level reading events. The inspection will include an evaluation <br /> of the physical condition of the well and the reference point elevations will be <br /> resurveyed as required. Well operation will be checked by monitoring well <br /> recovery after purging and before sampling. <br /> Corrective measures will be undertaken if inspections indicate severe weathering <br /> and rusting of exposed surfaces, broken or missing locks, failure of a piezometer to <br /> produce reproducible water levels, or failure of a monitoring well to produce <br /> representative samples. Weathered and rusty surfaces will be cleaned and <br /> repainted with rust-inhibitive paint. Broken or damaged locks will be replaced. If <br /> the integrity of the piezometer or well is in question because of uncertain <br /> measurements or deterioration of sample quantity or quality, an evaluation of the <br /> piezometer or well will be performed. If attempts to redevelop and recondition <br /> the piezometer or well are unsuccessful, a replacement piezometer or well will be <br /> installed. The deteriorated piezometer or well will be abandoned in accordance <br /> with applicable regulations and good engineering practice. <br /> Frequency of inspection will be the same as the monitoring schedule for each well. <br /> Maintenance of the groundwater extraction system, if still operational, will be <br /> performed to comply with the Corrective Action Program requirements in the <br /> site's Waste Discharge Requirements. <br /> 4.8 ACCESS ROAD MAINTENANCE <br /> The access road will require general maintenance. After a significant storm <br /> event and on a quarterly basis, the access roads will be inspected to determine if <br /> any potholing, erosion and/or structural damage has occurred. If any <br /> deficiencies are noted, the affected area will be repaired. Asphalt Concrete (AC) <br /> roadways will also be inspected quarterly and will be resurfaced, as necessary. <br /> 4.9 SITE SECURITY INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE <br /> Security fencing, access gates and signs will be inspected quarterly to ensure that <br /> the integrity of site security has been maintained.
