TABLE 4
CLAY LINER LABORATORY TESTING SUMMARY
4.4 Earth Fill soils
Earth Fill soils were used to construct the temporary south and east termination berms on the floor of
FU -10. Ausenco Vector CQA monitored construction of the temporary termination berms and
observed placement of "thin' (less than 12 -inch loose lifts) by the scrapers, scrapers splitting their
tracks, and additional moisture conditioning added as needed. CQA noted that the soils compacted
for the berms were firm and unyielding. Finish grading of the berms was accomplished by the D6
dozer and trimmed to finish grade dimensions by the D6 dozer with slope wings.
4.5 LCRS Granular Drainage Layer and Coarse Gravel
The Granular Drainage (GD) layer (pea gravel) was placed on the floor of WMU FU -10 for the
leachate collection and removal system (LCRS); the Coarse Gravel was used in the LCRS ditches,
where it was placed over the perforated HDPE pipes connected to the leachate collection tanks.
The Granular Drain (GD) material and Coarse Gravel (CG) was obtained from an off-site source.
The Granular Drainage material (GD) was placed on the floor over Cushion geotextile area by
dumping the gravel in a pile and pushing out the material with a low -ground pressure (LGP) D6
dozer. During placement of the Granular Drain (GD) material and Operations Layer soils, the Coarse
Gravels (CG) were placed in the LCRS trenches by a forklift with an extendable boom. The Ausenco
Vector CQA monitor observed the placement of these materials to ensure that no damage occurred
to the underlying geosynthetics, or no large wrinkles developed during placement.
Samples of the Granular Drainage (GD) material and Coarse Gravel (CG) were obtained for sieve
analyses and hydraulic conductivity tests. The Ausenco Vectors CQA monitor performed sieve
analysis tests on five (5) samples of the Granular Drain (GD) material before sending the samples to
the Ausenco Vector laboratory for hydraulic conductivity tests. The Ausenco Vector CQA monitor
also performed one sieve analysis on a bulk sample of Coarse Gravel (CG -1) for conformance
evaluation. Another sample, CG -2, was collected during placement and delivered to the Ausenco
Vector laboratory for a bulk sieve analysis and hydraulic conductivity determination.
The test results on sieve analyses of the LCRS Granular Drainage (GD) material indicated 100%
passing the 3/8 -inch sieve and less than 3% passing the No. 200 sieve, which satisfies the project
specifications. The test results on the Coarse Gravel (CG) sieve analyses indicated 100% passing
the 1 -inch sieve, less than 5% passing the #4 sieve, and less than 2% passing the #200 sieve.
Date: October 2010
USVC0004800
Final Construction Quality Assurance Report
12
