the geosynthetics material during backfill operations. Ausenco Vector CQA performed one test (CL -
81) in Clay Plug anchor trench backfill for the geosynthetics deployed on the 5:1 slope.
Documentation of the anchor trench backfill compaction test is included with the tests performed on
the low permeable Clay Liner (CL) soils in Appendix D.
Termination berms were constructed along the south and east sides of FU -10 to prevent surface
water run-on into the module. Construction of the temporary termination berms was observed by
CQA to verify that the contractor was placing and compacting moisture conditioned soils in such a
manner as to produce a firm and unyielding soil condition. These termination berms were constructed
using on-site soil.
Prior to construction of the termination berms, plywood was placed along the edge of the
geosynthetics to add protection when uncovering of the liner for a planned future tie-in.
4.8 Deck Area
The upper deck area, covering about half an acre, overlays a portion of the existing Austin Road
Landfill, and ties -in with the slope liner system for FU -10. The geosynthetics used here include, from
top to bottom;
• 1 foot of Operations Layer soils;
• 7 oz/yd2 Filter geotextile;
• 6 inches of LCRS Granular Drainage (GD)material;
• 12 oz/yd2 Cushion geotextile;
40 • 60 -mil thick double -side textured (DST) HDPE liner;
U
Tensar geogrid, and;
• compacted Operations Layer soils.
During clearing and grubbing activities the earthwork contractor, Guinn Construction, removed an
existing 3° pipe installed during FU -08 construction and excavated the anchor trench for the slope
liner geosynthetics. The geosynthetics on the deck were later connected to the slope geosynthetics.
Information on the geosynthetics used on the deck area are found in Appendix I.
4.9 As -Built Surveys
Surveys to verify the elevations and grades of the earthworks were conducted by RJA & Associates
Surveying, under the direction of Mr. Buck Buxton, a professional land surveyor registered in the
State of California. The earthwork components surveyed include the following:
• Top of prepared Subgrade Fills;
• Top of the low permeable Clay Liner;
• LCRS pipe and anchor trenches; and
• Top of Operation Layer soils.
As -built surveys for the prepared Subgrade, Clay Liner, and protective Operations Layer are
presented in Appendix N.
Date: October 2010
USVC0004800
Final Construction Quality Assurance Report 14
