Final Construction Quality Assurance Report — WMU FU -13
Forward Landfill
• TABLE 5
GCL CONFORMANCE TESTING SUMMARY
5.2.3 GCL Installation
5.2.3.1 GCL Deployment
GCL was deployed on the 4:1 slope, bench, and 2:1 slope of FU -13. GLA's CQA Monitor activities
during GCL deployment included observing the installer's activities, filling out field forms for
Subgrade Acceptance and Deployment Logs, and ensuring compliance with the Specifications.
• Field Panel identification: Prior to GCL deployment, GLA's CQA Monitor and the
•
superintendent for the liner installer, Camanco, discussed the labeling of the material. It was
agreed to the number each separate panel sequentially, including the factory roll number and
the day's date. Field sketches of each day's deployment were produced and maintained by
GLA's CQA Monitor. Comanco also prepared a panel deployment drawing that was reviewed by
GLA. This information can be found in Appendix H.
Field Panel Placement: The GCL deployed on the 4:1 slopes were full panels from the anchor
trench to bench, where the GCL was over lapped 7 feet according to Detail E on Sheet 5 of the
Plans; and full panels from the bench to the bottom of the 2:1 slope. During deployment,
granular bentonite was spread along the inside edge of each seam and the GCL overlapped 1
foot according to the requirements in the Plans and Specifications. During GCL deployment,
GLA's CQA Monitor recorded information in the GCL Deployment Logs. To protect the GCL from
hydration, the material was covered the same day as it was deployed with HDPE liner, in the
event of rainy weather that could possibly damage the GCL. The GCL panel Deployment Logs
and as -built drawings are presented in Appendix H.
19 Geo -Logic
ASSOCIATES
TEST RESULTS
ASTM D4632
ASTM D 5993
ASTM D 5887
SAMPLE
PEEL STRENGTH
MASS PER UNIT AREA
HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY
NO.
(LBS)
(LBS/FT2)
(CM/SEC)
P/F
SPECS
35(min.)
0.75 @ 0% M.C.
5 x 10-9 (max.)
--
502224294
58.5
0.76
3.4 x 10 9
P
502224325
37.4
0.85
2.7 x 10 9
P
502224378
45.4
0.88
2.6 x 10-9
P
5.2.3 GCL Installation
5.2.3.1 GCL Deployment
GCL was deployed on the 4:1 slope, bench, and 2:1 slope of FU -13.
