trend in well AMW-1 suggests that active reductive dechlorination is occurring in the
vicinity of these wells.
4.0 ANNUAL SUMMARY
4.1 GENERAL
During the 2012 monitoring year, groundwater elevations and groundwater and surface
water sampling was performed at the Forward Landfill on a quarterly basis. The
groundwater and surface water samples were analyzed for the monitoring parameters
summarized in Table 2-1, and a tabular summary of the 2012 annual monitoring data is
provided in Appendix C. Time-series plots and piper diagrams depicting groundwater
and surface water constituent concentrations, prepared by Herst, are presented in
Appendix D. In addition, well hydrographs illustrating historical groundwater elevations,
well screen elevations, and pump intake elevations are also included in Appendix D.
According to the Forward Landfill Operations Manager, Forward Landfill received a total
of 859,731 tons of solid waste during the 2012 monitoring year. Figure 1-2 shows the
approximate location of waste placement during 2012 monitoring year. The following
types of waste were received:
Non-hazardous solid waste— 845,053 tons
Asbestos—3,787 tons
Sewage and wastewater treatment sludge— 10,891 tons
4.2 LANDFILL GAS MONITORING
The CEHD performs monthly inspections at the Forward Landfill for methane
concentrations in perimeter soil-pore gas probes. No perimeter gas probes exceeded the
regulatory limit of 5 percent at the Forward Landfill during the 2012 monitoring year. In
accordance with CCR 27, Section 20937(a) (1), methane monitors are installed in all
buildings at the site to protect public health and safety and the environment. During the
2012 monitoring year, no methane was detected in any of the facilities buildings.
.3 COMPLIANCE RECORD
A NOV was issued during the May 18, 2012 inspection for the construction of a
perimeter road within the buffer area which violated the terms and conditions of the solid
waste facility permit. Forward corrected the NOV, and no other NOVs were noted
during the monitoring year.
.4 FORWARD UNIT
Groundwater
Groundwater elevations measured during the 2012 monitoring year were variable,
reflecting seasonal precipitation patterns. The variable pattern in groundwater elevations
c:\2012-0025\FA 4Q12.duc 14 Geo-Logic Associates
