2.4 CLAY EARTHFILL MATERIAL <br /> A. A natural clayey material free from roots, organic matter, frozen material, debris, <br /> solid waste, rocks, or slag larger than 1 inch, and other deleterious materials. The <br /> clay earthfill material shall be obtained from the northern or eastern onsite borrow <br /> sources. <br /> B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall selectively excavate suitable clay <br /> earthfill material from the onsite borrow sources. The clay earthfill material shall <br /> be first obtained from the eastern onsite borrow source until a sufficient amount of <br /> material has been obtained or there is no suitable clay earthfill material remaining. <br /> Clay earthfill material shall then be obtained from the northern onsite borrow <br /> source <br /> B. The clay earthfill material shall have a soil classification of clayey sand (SC), lean <br /> clay, sandy clay, or silty clay (CL), or fat clay or sandy clay (CH), using the <br /> Unified Soil Classification System and shall meet the following requirements: <br /> 1. Particle Size: Material having 100 percent by weight passing l-inch sieve, <br /> 90 percent by weight passing U.S. No.4 sieve and at least 60 percent by <br /> weight passing U.S. No. 200 sieve. The maximum in-place dry clod size <br /> shall be 1 inch. <br /> 2. Liquid Limit: 25 minimum to 60 maximum. <br /> 3. Plasticity Index: 10 to 40. <br /> 2.5 GRANULAR DRAINAGE MATERIAL <br /> A. Granular Drainage Material (GDM): Clean, washed, well-rounded, hard, durable <br /> sandy gravel free from foreign materials. Material shall have a maximum particle <br /> size of 3/8 inch and shall have less than 3 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The <br /> minimum hydraulic conductivity to water shall be 0.1 cm/sec. <br /> B. GDM shall contain no limestone or other material that will adversely react with <br /> leachate. <br /> C. The GDM shall be provided by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR. <br /> 2.6 COARSE GRAVEL <br /> A. Clean,washed,well-rounded, hard, durable gravel free from dirt, clay clods, roots, <br /> and other foreign materials. Material shall conform to the following washed sieve <br /> gradation as determined by ASTM C117 and C136: <br /> Sieve Size Percent Passing by Weight <br /> 1" 100 <br /> 1/2" 0-15 <br /> Forward Landfill WMU FU-14 <br /> 02300 6 EARTHWORK <br />
