C. Compaction Equipment
1. Compaction equipment shall be of suitable type and adequate to obtain the
densities specified, and shall provide satisfactory breakdown of materials to
form a dense fill. Flooding or jetting will not be allowed.
2. Compaction equipment shall be maintained in such condition that it will
deliver the manufacturer's rated compactive effort. If inadequate densities
are obtained, larger and/or different types of additional equipment shall be
provided by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR. Hand-operated
equipment shall be capable of achieving the specified densities.
3. For the Clay Liner Material, use compaction equipment meeting the
following requirements:
a. To provide satisfactory breakdown of materials to form a dense
homogeneous fill free of visible voids.
b. If hand-operated equipment is used, it shall be capable of achieving
specified densities.
C. If inadequate densities are obtained, provide larger and/or different
types of additional equipment.
d. Roll the finished surface of the final lift with a smooth steel drum
roller or rubber-tired roller to eliminate tire or roller marks and
provide a smooth, dense surface.
D. Moisture Control Equipment:Equipment for applying water shall be of a type and
quality adequate for the Work, shall not leak, and shall be equipped with a
distributor bar or other approved device to assure uniform application. Equipment
for mixing and drying out material shall consist of blades, discs, or other approved
equipment.
2.10 EXCAVATION
A. Excavation is unclassified. Complete all excavation, regardless of the type,
nature, or condition of the materials encountered. The EARTHWORK
CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for making own estimate of the kind and
extent of the various materials to be excavated in order to accomplish the Work.
Forward Landfill WMU FU-14
02300 8 EARTHWORK
