3.6 STOCKPILE ACTIVITIES <br /> ® A. Stockpile all excavated material. Uniformly grade stockpile area to conform to <br /> existing contours, leave with a neat appearance, and maintain current drainage <br /> patterns. The stockpile shall have a slope no greater than two horizontal to one <br /> vertical and the top surface shall have a minimum 5 percent grade. <br /> B. Selective Stockpiling: <br /> 1. The CONTRACTOR shall make all reasonable efforts to separately <br /> stockpile fine grained materials suitable for use as the Clay Liner and Clay <br /> Earthfill. Material suitable for use as protective operations layer shall be <br /> placed in separate stockpile. <br /> 2. The QA/QC CONSULTANT may sample and analyze all stockpiles created <br /> by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR. <br /> 3. If, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, the EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR is not adequately separating excavated soil in accordance <br /> with these Specifications, the QA/QC CONSULTANT may direct the <br /> EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to modify his stockpiling operation or may <br /> order the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to halt excavation and <br /> stockpiling activities until adequate procedures can be developed. <br /> 4. Delays caused by inadequate stockpiling operation, as determined by the <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT, shall not be cause for an extension in the <br /> EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's completion dates or cause for <br /> ® EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR change orders and all additional cost <br /> associated shall be at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. <br /> 3.7 GRADING AND SUBGRADE PREPARATION <br /> A. This Work shall consist of fine grading and preparation of lining subgrade for the <br /> construction of the base lining. The lining subgrade is further defined as those <br /> areas and surfaces within the subgrade upon which lining materials are to be <br /> placed. <br /> 1. Fine grading shall be performed to grade the subgrade to within the tolerances <br /> specified in Section 01410, SURVEYS. <br /> 2. The prepared subgrade surface shall be smooth and free of major irregularities. <br /> The subgrade should contain no exposed particles larger than 3 inches or other <br /> surface irregularities which, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, <br /> will damage the 60-mil HDPE geomembrane. <br /> 3. Overexcavation below the established lining subgrade by the EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR shall, at his expense, be backfilled with Clay Liner Material <br /> or General Earthfill Material as directed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br /> 4. Once completed, all traffic shall be kept off the lining subgrade. <br /> 5. The lining subgrade shall be maintained in the finished condition until the first <br /> succeeding course is placed. Any damage to the prepared lining subgrade by <br /> the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be repaired, at the EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR's expense.
