S
Public Services
Public services in the area are provided by the following entities:
• Electricity - P.G. & E. electrical lines run east/west along Harney
Lane at the proposed site.
• Gas - P.G. &E. gas lines do not presently extend to the proposed site.
• Telephone - Pacific Telephone provides service in the study area.
• Water - Facilities do not exist for water service to the site.
® Sewer - Facilities do not exist for sewer service to the site.
• Police Protection - The unincorporated areas are covered by the San
Joaquin County Sheriff's Department.
• Fire Protection - The site is located in the service area of the Linden -
Peters Rural Fire District
The only public services which would be affected by the proposed landfill
are fire protection, police protection, electrical power and telephone.
Demands for electrical power on the site should be minimal and typical
of a small-scale commercial service. Power would be supplied only for the
usual day-to-day equipment maintenance, office operation, water pumps, and
for security lighting. A standard domestic service should suffice.
Telephone service would be a commercial service; the business and billing
part of the landfill operation would be located elsewhere. As an alternative
a radio transmitter/receiver could be used.
Security requirements should be nil except -near the scales, recycling
and corporation yard areas. The patrol frequency required from the San
Joaquin County Sheriff should be the equivalent to either a small commercial
facility or residential unit in the area. Routine patrols in the area should
be able to include the landfill site, much the same as is now required at the
existing landfill site.
Fire protection would be provided by the Linden -Peters Rural Fire District
from its station located eight miles away. Response time would be approximately
15 minutes. Employess would be present at the landfill site during all hours
of operation. Open burning would not be -permitted as part of the landfill
operation. Fire protection requirements would be approximately the same as at
the present Harney Lane landfill site.
No mitigation measures are proposed to limit the minor use of electrical
energy or telephone on the site. The demands for Sheriff's patrols would be
reduced somewhat by providing proper security lighting and fencing in the cor-
poration yard and business office areas.
