Y
Page 3
#1. James S. DeMartini (cont).
Alleged that it is proposed to prevent water from seeping int*
the land with a layer of compacted earth. Water seeps through
Camanche Dam which is much thicker compacted earth and has
caused damage to the Podesta property and this resulted in a
lawsuit. East Bay MUD had to pay damages of $95,000 to 15
acres of the Podesta property, and further alleged that two
feet of coverage is not sufficient to prevent seepage into
the landfill.
Staff - Hydraulic pressures are much greater at Camanche Dam.
of cover
-_ be determined from design
analysisof oThe ofeetspecified r: minumum
staterequirement of the State Water Quality Control Board. EBMUD
officials that the compacted earth,. never
leaked. The seeping is below the area that they placed
compacted earth fills--ni3-tcoming through compacted fills
at all. The two feet of compacted clay would be the lower
layer covering the landfill and would remain undisturbed.
We would then add whatever topsoil is needed for agricultural
production.
James DeMartini
•
Alleged that the James Burnett property, 200 acres, was ripp
two ways with a D-9 and was planted to a vineyard and has a
permanentsMinkler system.
Staff - Property is on the south side of Kettleman Lane, one
MITe east of Tully Road in the west half of Section 16, T. 3 W.,
R. 8 E. Different soil type --portions of property have two soil
ratings --30 (poor) and 54 (fair). Not the same soil type as
that of the proposed landfill site.
James S. r - ,
Alleged that the Hashim Naraghi property along Keyes Road was
planted in almonds; he has eight million dollars of,almonds on
the trees in the section he owns and that is in land no different
from any land in the Clements property indicated.
Staff - The Keyes Road site is in Stanislaus County approximately
37 miles from the proposed landfill site; there is no clay in
the soil there.
