Modesto. Both companies have recycling operations in
Modesto for their Stanislaus County operations but take
commercial and industrial wastes from this County's
unincorporated area to San Joaquin County landfills with
no diversion of recyclable materials.
2. State Certified and Other Recycling Centers:
In addition to the disposal companies and their
recycling activities, there are 47 state certified
recycling centers in San Joaquin County. Most were
established as a result of the California Redemption
program and accept only redemption containers. However,
other recycling centers accept a wider range of
recyclables. In some cases, the certified redemption
centers accepting redemption beverage containers are
operated by waste disposal companies or scrap metal
companies. Quantities from these operations are
included in their overall recycling totals. Table 4-2
indicates that certified recycling centers diverted
about 1, 126 tons of waste in 1990.
Reynolds Aluminum has locations in three local
cities, serving residents of the cities and the
unincorporated areas. Those centers accept scrap
aluminum in addition to California redemption
containers.
Tokay Recycling in the City of Lodi is a buy-back
center serving Lodi and the unincorporated area and it
accepts a wide range of recyclable materials.
Manteca Recycling has centers in Manteca and Ripon
and accepts many recyclable materials in addition to
redemption containers. They receive recycled material
from both City and unincorporated County residents.
Chapter 4 - Recycling 16
