The actual details of the
program will be worked out when the residential
refuse collection contracts are renewed or replaced
by rebidding the residential refuse collection
service. The effectiveness of the recycling
program will be evaluated, and extended into or
revised for the medium-term planning period.
This alternative was selected because of its
capability to remove recyclables from the waste
stream, and to provide a convenient service to
residents who want to recycle. Further, it is
useful in raising the awareness or those who are
not recycling.
Self -Haul Program:
During the short-term planning period, the
County will provide drop-off areas for a wide range
of recyclables at all County solid waste
facilities. Plans include drop-off containers near
the tipping or entrance area, where site users can
deposit materials such as beverage redemption
containers and various types of paper. Programs
implemented during the short term may be extended,
and expanded if required, into the medium-term
planning period.
This program was chosen because of its ability
to provide convenient recycling services for self -
haul customers who choose to source separate their
recyclable materials.
Commercial and Industrial Program:
Source separation will be encouraged for
Chapter 4 - Recycling
42 1
I
