from both self -haul and business waste streams. Much of <br />the waste from the unincorporated area does not pass <br />through a garbage hauler's facility and thus misses that <br />recycling opportunity. <br />E. Estimation of Quantities to be Diverted: <br />Table 4-1 presented earlier, lists estimated <br />quantities to be diverted by waste type and category, as <br />well as the percent it will contribute to the County's <br />waste reduction goals. Estimates ar•e made for the short- <br />term and medium-term planning periods. <br />F. List of End Uses for Diverted Materials: <br />The diversion program will deal with materials for <br />which markets exist, and.wherever possible the County <br />will attempt to find the highest use for the material. <br />Therefore, paper grades will be separated as carefully as <br />possible to avoid having to deal with mixed grades which <br />bring lower prices. Since there is a linerboard producer <br />in the County, efforts will be made to work with that <br />company to recycle as much paper of as many grades as <br />possible. <br />A large tin -can recycler is also located in the <br />County and cans will be collected to meet that end -user's <br />specifications. Drop-off facilities will allow recyclers <br />to separate glass by color. Recycling or reuse programs <br />will be sought for wood and tires to avoid transformation <br />whenever possible. <br />There are several scrap metal dealers in the area <br />who will accept diverted scrap from the County's disposal <br />sites. Two small-scale metal diversion programs have <br />been carried out at the Harney Lane Landfill and the <br />Chapter 4 - Recycling 48 <br />
