C
1 10. Availability of End Users for Diverted Material:
Material separated at a MRF would be sent to a
compost facility with end users as discussed
previously.
A more sophisticated system would produce a
higher grade compost that would be marketable to a
variety of end users, including City and County,
agricultural community, and homeowners.
V. Selection of Composting Program:
IA. Composting Alternatives Selected:
1. Source Separation:
In portions of the unincorporated area,
curbside separation and collection of yard waste
will be initiater through changes in franchise
11
agreements.
For self -haul waste, the County will provide
drop-off facilities at disposal sites and compost
facilities where generators may bring segregated
compostable waste.
This alternative was selected because of the
high percentage of yard waste in the residential
and self -haul waste streams. Source separation
would maximize the amount of yard waste diverted,
and would result in the cleanest material.
2. Compost Facilities:
Over the short-term and medium-term planning
period, two or three sites will be developed in the
Chapter 5 - Compost 19
11
