7.
minimal. There are tallow rendering plants which
pick up animal carcasses for processing. Near -by
tallow companies include Modesto Tallow, serving
the southern part of the County, and Sacramento
Rendering, serving the northern part of the County.
This waste is adequately handled in San Joaquin
County and poses no hazards.
No quantitative information was available for
this diversion activity and no estimates for its
diversion rates are presented in this SRRE.
Grease Trap Pumpings:
Grease trap pumpings from the unincorporated
area have been going to water treatment facilities
in San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties. Also, a
facility has been developed in Stockton by the I -
TRE Corporation, for processing grease trap
pumpings. This plant recycles the waste material
for use as industrial lubricants, at fees
considerably higher than those charged for disposal
by the water treatment plants.
The County's class III sanitary landfills do
not accept grease trap pumpings, septic tank
pumpings, or sewage sludge.
In the future, the Sacramento County water
treatment facility may discontinue accepting these
wastes. However, facilities within San Joaquin
County appear adequate to handle this waste type.
Current diversion programs pose no unusual or
unmitigatable hazards.
Chapter 6 - Special Wastes 10
