I
CHAPTER 10
INTEGRATION COMPONENT
I.
INTRODUCTION:
An Integration Component is required as part of the
Source Reduction and Recycling Element. Its purpose is to
describe how the Source Reduction, Recycling, Compost, and
Special Waste Components are integrated to maximize their
effectiveness in achieving the 25% and 50% waste reduction
required by the ACT.
The Integration Component must also describe the solid
waste management practices which encourage source reduction,
utilize recycling and composting, and promote environmentally
safe transformation and land disposal.
An implementation schedule must be included showing all
the tasks necessary to carry out the plan in the short term.
II. How the Source Reduction, Recycling, Compost, and Special Waste
Components Combine to Achieve the 25% and 50% Waste Reduction
Goals:
The ACT established a hierarchy for integrated waste
management - Source Reduction, Recycling, Compost,
Transformation, and Landfill Disposal. This Integration
Component describes the County's program to manage its waste
stream in the order of priorities established by the
hierarchy.
r
