Goals and Objectives: <br /> A. Goals: <br /> The Source Reduction component is required to examine and <br /> select Source Reduction Program objectives which meet the <br /> goal of minimizing the quantity of solid waste generated, <br /> Therefore, objectives that are developed in this report are <br /> based upon the following goals: <br /> 1. Encourage public participation in source reduction by <br /> educating the public about the consequences of their <br /> actions concerning use, reuse, and ultimate disposal <br /> of the products they buy. <br /> 2. Facilitate the implementation of source reduction <br /> programs on a regional basis when feasible. <br /> 3 . Develop an awareness of and participation in source <br /> reduction activities in all aspects of governmental <br /> and business activities. <br /> B. Objectives for the Short-Term and Medium-Term Planning <br /> Periods: <br /> The source reduction component strategies for the <br /> unincorporated area are aimed toward reducing the use of <br /> non-recyclable materials, replacing disposable materials <br /> with re-usable materials, reducing packaging, reducing yard <br /> waste, purchasing repairable products, increasing the <br /> efficiency of use of materials, and identifying priority <br /> waste categories for diversion by source reduction. <br /> Chapter 3 - Source Reduction 2 <br />
