C
2. Insulation shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's
specification, and shall be rated for temperatures suitable for the
application. The insulation in the combustion zone shall be rated for
2,200°F. The Flare Manufacturer shall submit for approval, infor-
mation on the maximum internal temperature that may be expected,
and necessary data for insulating material and the method of
attachment in order to demonstrate that the insulating materials are
suitable for the intended application. Metal retainers, clip, and wire
required to hold the insulation in place shall be protected from the
flame by an insulation pad . placed. over them, and they shall be
fabricated from Inconel. No metal component shall be in direct
contact with the flame.
C. Flame Safeguard - A flame safeguard with self -checking UV scanner shall
be used to monitor combustion per the UV scanner data sheet. The UV
scanner shall have a 1" FNPT connection. The control unit shall include a
panel mounted display with remote reset capabilities.
D. Additional Components - For proper and safe flare performance several
accessories shall be installed as part of the flare assembly. The following
accessories shall be supplied and installed on the flare by the Contractor
prior to delivery and in accordance with the Drawings and these
Specifications. Equipment that may be damaged in transit shall be removed
for shipping.
1. Manway - A' manway shall be provided for access to the flare
interior. The damper assembly may substitute for the manway
provided the opening is a minimum 12" x 16", hinged, electrical
wires will not require disconnection for access, and access into the
flare housing and above the burner assembly is easily obtainable.
2. Temperature Element - Couplings shall be welded in the flare
housing to accommodate Type K thermocouples. Couplings shall
be installed at 1/3 the flare capacity, 2/3 the flare capacity, and at
the maximum flare capacity plus 2 feet. The top thermocouple
should be located 5 feet below the top of the flare.
3. Damper Assembly - The damper assembly supplied by the
Contractor shall be controlled by a motor actuator as specified
1 herein and on the equipment data sheets.
4. Electrical Equipment - Electrical equipment furnished with the
flare shall be suitable for operation in outdoor unclassified
locations and shall be enclosed in NEMA 4 enclosures. If the flare
is located off skid two junction boxes shall be provided, one is for
1 low voltage wiring and one is for voltages greater than 100V.
North County LFG Collection System 6 FLARE STATION ENCLOSED GROUND FLARE
San Joaquin County Public Works Section 11550
