Standard Title and Test Description
ASTM D 1587 Thin Wall Sampling Method
ASTM D4943 Standard test Method for Shrinkage Factors of Soil by Wax Method
ASTM D4542 Standard Test Method for Pore Water Extraction and Determination of the Soluble Salt Content of Soils
by Refractometer
ASTM E1195 Standard Test Method for Determining a Sorption Constant(Koc)for an Organic Chemical in Soil and
Sediments
' ASTM D6391 Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Hydraulic Conductivity Limits of Porous Materials Using
Two Stages of Infiltration from a Borehole
During the progress of the work, additional procedures may be needed for other testing or sampling.
If such procedures do not exist, or if they exist and need to be modified, the CQA Engineer shall
develop or revise written procedures as warranted.
4.2.2 Test Frequencies
The project construction specifications establish the test frequencies for earthwork construction
quality assurance and are summarized in Table 02200-1 and Table 02200-2 of the Construction
Specifications. The test frequencies listed establish a minimum number of required tests. Extra testing
must be conducted whenever work or materials are suspect, marginal, or of poor quality. Extra testing
may also be performed to provide additional data for engineering evaluation. Re-tests performed as a
result of a failing test do not contribute to the total number of tests performed in satisfying the
minimum test frequency shown on the construction drawings. Examples of conditions that may
warrant additional tests include the following:
• Compactors slip while compacting
' • Excessive pumping or cracking of fill
' • Lift thickness greater than specified
Dirt-clogged rollers used to compact the fill
' ® Improperly ballasted compactor
® Adverse weather
' ® Equipment breakdown
' ® Work conducted in difficult areas
® High frequency of failed tests
CH CQA Plan 041712 Rev2a.doc 4-3
