.3 Monitoring Requirements <br /> Earthwork components of the work are summarized at the beginning of Section 4.0. Each component <br /> has specific construction requirements that must be monitored. The following paragraphs list CQA <br /> monitoring requirements for each type of earthwork. <br /> 4.3.1 Grading and Shaping <br /> As described in detail in Section 01052, Paragraph 1.04 of the construction specifications, the CQA <br /> Monitor will: <br /> ® Verify that construction staking is performed before work <br /> • Review survey information with the Resident Engineer <br /> 4.3.2 General Fill Placement <br /> In addition to the CQA procedures described in Sections 02200 of the construction specifications, the <br /> CQA Monitor will: <br /> ® Verify that stockpiles containing contaminated material are bermed or covered. <br /> ® Immediately notify the CQA Engineer if unexpected hazardous materials (such as barrels, <br /> tanks, medical waste, tar seeps) are discovered during grading. <br /> ® Check for areas where additional fill needs to be placed due to settlement. <br /> ® Verify that final lines and grades of the regraded are correct. <br /> 4.3.3 Placement of Subgrade Preparation Layer Soil <br /> As described in the subgrade preparation layer of sections 02200 of the construction specifications, <br /> ' the CQA Monitor will: <br /> ® Verify removal and stockpiling of oversized material (if applicable) <br /> ' ® Verify that source of material is suitable for subgrade preparation layer soil <br /> ® Test compaction and moisture content at required frequencies <br /> ® Sample and perform classification testing at required frequencies <br /> ' ® Perform in situ hydraulic conductivity tests and collect undisturbed samples for laboratory <br /> hydraulic conductivity testing at the required frequencies. <br /> ' ® Backfill test holes with a minimum 20% by weight bentonite powder in prepare subgrade <br /> soil and backfill test hole by placing in approximate 2-inch thick lifts and compacting <br /> backfill by hand tamping. <br /> ® Verify that completed grades meet slope requirements <br /> ' • Verify that final grading meets tolerance requirements <br /> CH CQA Plan 041712 Rev2a.doc 4-4 <br />
