to the conditions present in the late 1990s A review of the hydrographs for the shallow aquifer
wells indicates that they fluctuate seasonally and have exhibited long term regional trends in
response to climatic conditions experienced in California(Appendix F). This demonstrates that
the shallow aquifer monitoring network acts a good indicator of groundwater conditions along
the northeastern and eastern boundary of the landfill.
Deep Aquifer
The groundwater elevations at MW-6 and MW-7 indicate that groundwater flow is northeasterly
from MW-7 to MW-6 (Figure 3 and Appendix G), which is in a reverse direction to the flow in
the shallow aquifer. The average calculated groundwater velocity is 1.39 ft/yr based on a
gradient of 0.005 feet per foot. Hydrographs of the deep aquifer wells show a downward trend
from the initiation of monitoring in 2004.This is likely due to groundwater withdrawal from
production wells in the Central Valley to the east of the landfill.
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill 13 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1 st Quarter 2012 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin—April 16,2012
