3.0 REVEGETATION
The landfill and two soil borrow sites will require revegetation
(153 acres total) . Approximately 100 acres of landfill area will
be revegetated. The borrow sites are approximately 33 and 20 acres
(see sheet 4) . The vegetative layer will be 1. 0 foot thick for the
landfill area and will be planted with Bromme grass which should
not require irrigation.
The following assumptions are made for estimating costs:
* Seeding will be accomplished by hydroseeding for the landfill
areas.
* The maximum seeding rate will be 40 pounds per acre
* Fertilizer will be applied at a rate of 400 pounds/acre.
* Mulch will be applied at a rate of 1500 pounds/acre.
* All costs below include labor
3 . COST
Landfill:
a. Seed @ 40 pounds per acre
($12.50/lb X 40 X 153) _ $ 76,500
b. 16-20-0 fertilizer @ $200 per acre
($.50/lb X 400 X 153) _ $ 30, 600
C. Mulch @ $300/acre =
($.20/lb X 1500 X 153) _ $ 45,900
Total Revegetation $153, 000
4. 0 LANDFILL GAS MONITORING AND CONTROL
Landfill gas monitoring has indicated that methane levels are above
regulation limits at the perimeter of the landfill. A control
system will be installed following construction of the final cover.
The gas collected would either be sold or flared off, depending on
the market. The estimated cost to design and install a gas
collection and flaring system at the Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill
is $400, 000. The estimated cost for methane monitoring of the
perimeter wells and off site structures for the closure period is
$10,000.
19
