kn KLEINEELDER
7 QA/QC TESTING AND MONITORING
7.1 GENERAL
The construction monitoring and QA/QC testing of the foundation layer will be primarily
performed by the SJDPW Engineer and Field Engineers. Kleinfelder will assist with this
monitoring. Kleinfelder will perform all monitoring and QA/QC testing of the test pad and
barrier layer of the final cover. This work plan is based on the estimate that an outside earth
work contractor would require approximately one month to construct the barrier layer.
7.2 QA/QC TESTING
The tests to be used are shown in Table 7-1. For the most part they are standard ASTM tests
as shown. The Sealed Double Ring Infiltrometer (SDRI) test was, carried out on the test pad
using a circular Kleinfelder modification of the Trautwein square SDRI.
Table 7-2 shows the monitoring test methods. This table outlines the construction
observations in more detail and indicates the elements to be observed.
Table 7-3A shows the frequency of field and laboratory testing and observations for the final
cover. Provided the contractor passes these required tests, for the initial 10 percent (10 acre)
of the cover, the testing frequency will be reduced to that shown in Table 7-3B.
Table 7-4 shows the pass/fail criteria for soil properties including moisture, density, percent
passing #200 sieve and permeability.
7.3 CONSTRUCTION MONITORING
Kleinfelder personnel will visit the site on each day that construction is in progress. The
number of hours that Kleinfelder staff spend at the site each day will be determined by the
rate of progress of the construction work. The Kleinfelder QA/QC technician will perform the
necessary geotechnical tests or tasks in accordance with the Frequency of Testing schedule as
set forth on Table 3. Test results and observations will be recorded on standard forms. An
outline of Kleinfelder Standard Forms is given in Appendix C.
A weekly report will be prepared which will summarize the results of testing for the previous
week. This summary report will be prepared by the supervising technician or engineer and
reviewed by the QA/QC officer.
GSM:md 3EI94 Page 20 of 24
Copyright 1994 Kleinfelder, Inc.
