Following are brief descriptions of the information in Table I.D.2. The
information presented is supported by calculations in Appendix B, as
referenced in the descriptions, below.
a. Design Capacity
The design capacity of the Station is based on an evaluation of capacities for both
Non-Automated Disposal and Automated Disposal site users. The capacities are
based on gate processing capacity, tipping times for vehicles, processing of waste on
the tipping floor and rates of loading of transfer vehicles. The total station capacity
also will include the amount that can be removed from the tipping/sorting floor for
Lrecycling.
Calculations of design capacities are shown on Table I.D.2.-Design, in Appendix B.
The gat..apacities are based on an average 45 second transaction time for both
Non-Automated Disposal and Automated Disposal users. Unloading capacities are
conservatively based on 15 minute unloading times for both Non-Automated Disposal
' and Automated Disposal users.
' Calculated capacities for processing of waste to the tipping floor are 328 TPD for
Non-Automated Disposal users over a nine hour period of operation (limited by gate
processing); and 1,959 TPD for Automated Disposal users over an eleven hour daily
' operation (limited by tipping stalls). This capacity totals approximately 2,3_00 PD
gate and unloading capacity for both Non-Automated Disposal and Automated
Disposal.
It is assumed that 2 loaders will be used to process waste on the tipping/sorting floor
for transfer. Assuming 1 ton per minute average production (100 ft average travel
distance to pit; with limited time for sorting of recyclables), 2 loaders are estimated
to process 120 tons per hour. The average throughput capacity for loadout through
the single transfer pit will also be approximately 120 tons per hour [assuming transfer
' one load per 10 minutes (a typical performance) and 20 tons per load]. Therefore,
based on 120 ton per hour transfer capacity, an eleven hour day would result in a
3- transfer of 1,320 TPD. This transfer capacity could be increased by increasing the
hours per day that waste is loaded for transfer or by inclusion of mechanized
equipment in the future.
The capacity of the Station to accept and process waste also includes the capacity to
divert waste for recycling. Recyclmi activities during initial operations after
Expansion will include hand sorting and processm rec cables a oa er o ins.
It is anticipated that these hand sorting me o s will result in 5 to 15% diversion
from transfer. Under these conditions, the total station throughput would be
' approximately 1,375 to 1,425 TPD This throughput could be increased byextcndin
operat= hours, adding wsbg ed__equipmnt.e __m the future or by 'ncreasing the
Jgtof cnl'ferc -
It should be noted that the above design capacities are based on calculations using
07549001.012 9 September 23,1993
