• Select Automated Disposal or Non-Automated Disposal loads comprised of recyclables would be directed to unload in the appropriate bin • Yard Waste or Wood Waste bins from the Transfer Building would be stored in this area for off-site removal • Solid Waste Division drivers or drivers from local recycling companies would load and transport full roll-off boxes to off-site. Boxes which are removed, would be replaced with an empty box Household Hazardous Waste Recycling: A portion of the Recycling Drop-off Area will be used for receipt of recyclable Household Hazardous Waste ( , such as used batteries, latex paint, waste oil, antifreeze and other recyclable _ It is planned to handle these materials as is currently done at the North County Facility. These materials will be sorted from the waste stream and placed on double containment pallets for temporary storage, until the latex paint, motor oil and antifreeze can be bulked at the site by County staff. The bulked material and antifreeze will be transported to appropriate off-site recycling facilities. A copy of the County procedures at the North County Facility is in Appendix L. These procedures will also be used at the Lovelace Road Transfer Station. (3) Storage of Non-recoverable Residuals Destined for Disposal Long term storage of non-recoverable residuals destined for disposal is not proposed on-site. As mentioned in C.4.a.4.,above, although the tipping/sorting floor has the capacity to store incoming material for a minimum of 1.4 days. As a policy, Station operators will remove all material at the end of each day. Should materials remain at the end of an operational day they will be the first materials to be transferred the next morning. C. Materials Processing and Volume Reduction At this time, manual sorting will form the extent of waste processing operations. Limited compaction of waste at the Station will take place after waste has been deposited into the transfer trailers. This will be accomplished by tamping of the loaded waste by a pedestal crane bucket to be installed in the building behind the transfer tunnel. The front end loaders may break up some bulky wastes prior to loading in the transfer trailers. Initially, no other compaction or baling equipment is proposed for the Station. As compaction equipment is needed, it will be added. No waste transformation is proposed for the Station. d. Materials Removal (1) Loadout of Recyclable Materials 07549001.012 36 September 23,1993
