All-
weather surfaces are maintained throughout the facility, including loading and
unloading areas, and allow a minimum of 120 feet for maneuvering of solid waste
vehicles (i.e. making a right-hand turn and backing straight up), as described in
H. Lanier Hickman's Complete Handbook of Solid Waste Collection and Transfer.
Pile heights have been limited to 25 feet for inerts and 20 feet for C&D debris to
more readily manage materials, facilitate safe handling of materials with onsite
equipment, and minimize risk to public, drivers and onsite personnel. Site
personnel will monitor and maintain pile construction to prevent potential hazards
due to unstable or poorly configured piles.
The facility is surrounded by 25 -foot perimeter access areas and 20 -foot roads or
spaces are maintained between all material or debris piles, to enable access to
all operations areas by onsite equipment for materials management, or fire
control vehicles and equipment, if necessary.
All storage volumes have been calculated utilizing the following assumptions:
• Inert materials have an average of one ton per cubic yard.
• Mixed C&D materials have an average weight of 500 lbs. per cubic yard
Cubic Yards= Tons X 2000 lbs./ton X 1 cubic yard/500 lbs.
• Stockpile volumes are derived using a common mathematical formula:
Cubic Yards = 1/ (Area of Base (sq. ft.) 0 x w) + Area of Top (sq. ft.) (I x w)) X Height in ft.
27 cu. ft./cu. yd.
8 170.18 CDI FacReport 050813 revised
