pulp products from various fruits and vegetables, will be converted to silage and fed to cattle. The dry wastes will consist of scrap steel , wood, cardboard and plastics. All of the dry wastes will be sorted either by hand or machine . A majorityof the steel, wood and cardboard will be re- cycled. The remainder will be disposed of in the landfill . The recycled material will be transported to markets in the Stockton area. The operation of the sanitary landfill will be year round. ' The proposed landfill will be located such that all ryrunoff will be collected and retained in a specially-designed reservoir. The water will then be used to irrigate pasture or row crops. The reservoir design will be such that col- lected water does not filter through the dam and into the alluvial water table (see Figure 67 . The landfill will also be designed to accomodate oc- casional truckloads of septage fr. on Calaveras County. On the avera-e, one load per day will be dumped in the landfill and covered that same day. Septagv dumping will be on a contract basis with the operator, and health precautions will be prescribed by the County Health Department . Se tage Soil Amendment : In addition to utilizing sep- tage in the 1 n FIT"1 the project proposes to collect se t.a-e in a large , covered, properly-vented container and to inject this septage into subsurface soils. Injection methods are to be those similar to techniques commonly used for sewage sludge (meed , 1974 ) . These methods involve carrying septage behind a tractor and spray-injecting the effluent directly into the topsoil through a tubed harrow. JA lu ME Since septago injection is a new and untried process in this area, the applicant rill work closely with the Health Department to set specifications for septacre injection.
