operating area. <br /> 1.6 EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS <br /> A. The CONTRACTOR is advised that the construction of this project will require <br /> working in, on, and adjacent to refuse. Landfill gas (LFG) is generated from <br /> decomposing refuse. This LFG normally consists of about 45 percent carbon <br /> dioxide (CO2), 55 percent methane (CH4) and other gases, depending on the <br /> composition of the refuse. Hydrogen sulfide (I-12S) or other toxic gases have been <br /> occasionally encountered at landfills. <br /> B. Active Waste Management Units at the Forward Landfill were permitted for the <br /> disposal of"nonhazardous solid waste." Notwithstanding the above, the OWNER <br /> cannot guarantee that toxic or hazardous materials or vapors will not be <br /> encountered by the CONTRACTOR during the performance of this project. <br /> 1.7 TIME OF COMPLETION AND LIQUIDATED DAMAGES <br /> A. The CONTRACTOR shall agree to pay liquidated damages as specified in the <br /> Agreement Conditions. <br /> B. The CONTRACTOR shall commence and complete Work under this Contract <br /> within the time period stated in the Agreement. <br /> 1.8 CODES AND STANDARDS <br /> A. All Work done and materials and equipment transported, handled, stored or <br /> installed shall be done in strict conformance with the applicable orders, rules and <br /> regulations of the State of California, Division of Industrial Safety, and with all <br /> other State, County, City, or District requirements. Nothing contained in these <br /> Specifications or shown or noted on the Construction Drawings shall be construed <br /> to permit Work not conforming to these orders, rules and regulations. <br /> B. When Construction Drawings or Specifications call for material or construction of <br /> a better quality or larger size than may be required by applicable codes or <br /> standards, the provisions of the Construction Drawings and/or Specifications shall <br /> take precedence over the requirements of the code or standard. If there is any <br /> other conflict between the Construction Drawings or Specifications and the <br /> requirements of applicable codes and standards, the more stringent provisions <br /> shall govern. <br /> 1.9 MANUFACTURERS' SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS <br /> A. Unless otherwise indicated or specified, all manufactured materials, products, <br /> processes, equipment, or the like shall be installed or applied in accordance with <br /> the manufacturers' instructions, directions, or Specifications. Said installation or <br /> application shall be in accordance with printed instructions furnished by the <br /> manufacturer of the material or equipment concerned for use under conditions <br /> similar to those at the jobsite. Copies of such instructions shall be furnished to the <br /> DESIGN ENGINEER and his acceptance thereof obtained before Work is begun. <br /> B.
