---- - — --- -- k" KEEfNFEL-E}ER
4 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION WORKPLAN
This workplan describes a scope of work for the installation of three monitoring wells in
the vicinity of the wastewater ponds, to address monitoring well installation associated
with the groundwater monitoring requirements included in the of the RWQCB Revised
Monitoring and Reporting Program No. 93-112.
4.1 PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) requires completion
of a well permit, and payment fees prior to installation of monitoring wells. Kleinfelder
will prepare drilling permit application for submittal to EHD along with the required fees
and this workplan. The permits must be approved prior to drilling activities and
sampling. EHD usually requires up to approximately two weeks issuing the permits.
Kleinfelder will contact Underground Service Alert 48 hours prior to conducting fieldwork
to notify local utilities of the proposed subsurface assessment.
4.2 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
Three (3) monitoring wells will be installed at the proposed locations shown on Plates 2
and 3. The proposed well locations have been selected to assess groundwater
conditions in the vicinity of the evaporation and percolation ponds south of the facility and
to estimate groundwater gradient direction during the time of sampling. The locations
were chosen based on an anticipated groundwater flow direction to the north in the
vicinity of the ponds and on reasonable access.
The soil borings will be drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch hollow
stem augers to a total depth of approximately 60-feet bgs. During advancement of the
soil borings, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals for lithologic classification.
Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
Equipment used in the drilling and installation procedures will be cleaned and/or
decontaminated as described in Appendix A. Kleinfelder does not propose to perform
laboratory analyses on any soil samples at this time.
Based upon available information, we anticipate groundwater in the vicinity of the project
site to be present at a depth of approximately 50 feet below the ground surface, with a
groundwater flow direction to the north.
67451.WP1/ST06R295/FB:ly Page 5 of 14
©2006 Kleinfelder, Inc.
