10 May 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0839
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
2.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site permits will be obtained from the City of Stockton (i.e., electrical, building,
plumbing, etc.)and from the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District(APCD). In
addition,an update to the health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with
Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).Prior to mobilization, all underground trenching areas will
be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
2.2. REMEDIATION WELLS
Currently, SVE wells VW-2, VW-4, and VW-5 are screened through the shallow vadose zone
(15 feet to 30 feet below surface grade [bsg]) and are located in the suspected core area of the
petroleum-impacted soil at the site.Based on the results of the SVE pilot tests conducted at the site
in December 2006,a theoretical radius of influence of approximately 62 feet was estimated for SVE
utilizing the shallow wells.Utilization of wells VW-2,VW-4,and VW-5 for an interim remediation
SVE system should be adequate to extract soil vapor from the core area of petroleum-impacted soil
beneath the UST area.
2.3. INSTALLATION OF INTERIM REMEDIATION SYSTEM PIPING NETWORK
The remediation system piping network will be installed underground in a I-foot wide by 1%-foot
deep trench. The proposed underground trenching location is depicted on Figure 2;a cross sectional
view of the trench is depicted on Figure 3. In the trench, 2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping
will be manifolded from the well-heads at VW-2,VW-4,and VW-5 and routed to the proposed soil
vapor extraction unit(catalytic oxidizer). Following piping placement, the trench will be backfilled
with imported road-base sand, compacted, and resurfaced to grade with asphalt.
2.4. PROPOSED INTERIM SOIL REMEDIATION SYSTEM
The proposed SVE treatment unit will be a Solleco Ecat 250, which consists of a condensation
separator, a vacuum blower, an electrically heated catalytic oxidizer, and control components. The
2-inch diameter piping installed from the well-head at wells VW-2, VW-4, and VW-5 will be
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
