Sampling ports will be
installed upstream of the vacuum blower inlet to recover SVE influent air flow vapor stream
samples, and downstream of the catalytic converter cell chamber to recover effluent SVE air flow
samples and to monitor the efficiency of hydrocarbon destruction.A schematic diagram of the SVE
treatment unit is depicted on Figure 4; additional information is included in Appendix B.
The proposed location of the SVE unit will be in the north section of the site(Figure 2),which will
allow the Ernie's General Store facility to conduct day to day business without interference from the
operation of the SVE remediation system. The SVE unit will be secured by a chain-linked, gated
enclosure approximately 15 feet wide, 20 feet long, and 7 feet high. Electricity is readily available
to the site; a dedicated electrical meter will be installed by representatives of the City of Stockton
Utilities that will connect directly to the SVE unit.
2.5. INTERIM REMEDIATION START-UP PERIOD
During the SVE start-up period (first week of operation), in order to monitor hydrocarbon
destruction efficiency, influent and effluent air-flow vapor samples will be collected on a daily basis
and submitted to a State of California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified laboratory for
analysis for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
SVE operational parameters including soil-gas vapor concentrations, air flow, vacuum, and
temperature will be monitored on a daily basis to gauge the optimal destruction rate of recovered
hydrocarbon vapors.
Following the SVE start-up period,air-flow vapor samples will be collected on a monthly basis and
the SVE operational parameters will be monitored on a weekly basis to monitor cleanup progress.
Advanced GeoEnvironmeotel,Inc.
