COMMUNTY <br /> F U L S a Process Hazardous Waste Management <br /> stk- EHS- POL-015 . c <br /> 15 . Light Ballasts — PCB — Certain fluorescent light bulbs contain PCB' s . PCB light ballasts must be <br /> managed as non - hazardous waste . Must meet all requirements for hazardous waste . <br /> a . Labeling — besides hazardous waste labeling requirements, containers with > 50 ppm PCB <br /> must have a PCB label . <br /> 16 . Sand ( Abrasive ) Blast — must be tested to determine whether it meets the characteristics of <br /> hazardous waste ( corrosivity, ignitability, flammability, reactivity ) . If the waste is considered to be <br /> non - hazardous, it can be sent to the municipal solid landfill for disposal . If found to be hazardous <br /> waste, it must be handled and disposed of appropriately . <br /> 17 . Bio hazardous waste — bandages, band aids, etc . contaminated with blood and other bodily fluid <br /> are only bio hazardous waste if " liquid comes out when you squeeze the waste" . Free liquid blood <br /> or other bodily fluids are bio hazardous waste . Bandages, etc . that are not dripping but that are <br /> saturated and will drip if you squeeze them are bio hazardous waste . Bio hazardous waste must <br /> be disposed in bio hazard waste container . Bandages, band aids, etc . with dried bodily fluids can <br /> go to regular trash . <br /> 3 UNIVERSAL WASTE REQUIREMENTS <br /> 3 . 1 ACCUMULATION TIME LIMIT <br /> Do not store universal waste for longer than one year after generating or receiving the waste ( 22 CFR <br /> 66273 . 15 ) . <br /> Document the length of time onsite universal waste has accumulated from the date of its generation or <br /> its acceptance from someone else [22 CFR 66273 . 15 ( c) ] . <br /> 3 . 2 ACCUMULATION VOLUME LIMIT <br /> Most handlers of universal waste are categorized as small quantity handlers of universal waste (SQHUW) . <br /> Meaning, the individual or business does not accumulate 5 , 000 kilograms ( 5 . 5 tons ) or more total <br /> universal waste at any time . <br /> Do not accumulate more than 5000 kilograms ( 5 . 5 tons ) of universal waste at any one time . Otherwise, <br /> you will need to acquire an EPA identification number . <br /> 3 . 3 OPEN CONTAINER <br /> The container must be closed at all times except when waste is being handled . <br /> 11 <br />
