N%001
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT WORKPLAN
JAY'S MINI-MART, STOCKTON
APRIL 2002
To minimize the possibility of cross contamination, the sampling equipment and brass liners will
be washed and rinsed with distilled water before collecting each soil sample. Drilling and sampling
will be performed according to ASTM Method D 1452-80, Soil Investigation and Sampling by
Auger Borings.
Soil samples will be collected at 5 foot intervals until groundwater is encountered, which is
anticipated at about 50 feet bgs. Soil samples will be collected by placing the augers above the
desired sampling depth and then a modified California split-spoon sampler lined with three brass
tubes will be driven into the undisturbed soil. The sampler will be driven by a 140-pound hammer
with a 30-inch drop according to ASTM Methods D 15 86-84 Split Barrel Sampling in Soil and the
resulting blow counts will be recorded in six-inch intervals after every sampling event.
Approximately three soil samples from each boring will be selected for submitted to a laboratory
for analyses. The middle of the three brass tubes in the sampler will be the one submitted. To
preserve the sample, the liners at each end of the tube will be sealed using Teflon sheeting secured
by tight fitting plastic caps. The samples will be stored in a chilled cooler for transport to a state
certified laboratory for analysis.
Groundwater samples will be collected from each boring when water is encountered. Groundwater
samples will be collected by placing the augers above the desired sampling depth and lowering a
disposable bailer into the saturated zone. The bailer will be allowed to fill with groundwater. The
groundwater sample will be removed with the bailer and transferred to the appropriate sample
containers. Strict COC protocol will be followed during sample collection and handling.
The soil borings will be abandoned by backfilling each boring with a neat cement grout of the
proper consistency.
Soil and groundwater samples will be submitted, under chain-of-custody documentation, for
chemical analysis to a state certified analytical laboratory. The soil and groundwater samples will
be analyzed for TPH G and TPH D by EPA Method 8015 modified;BTEX,the fuel oxygenates, and
1,2-DCA and EDB by EPA Method 8260B.
SUMMARY REPORT
Based on the results of the proposed work GHH will prepare either an AAR or a NFAR. The report
will include: GHH's interpretation of information gathered during the investigation; detailed
descriptions of the methodologies used to collect and analyze the data;analytical results; copies of
laboratory certificates with COC documentation; and our conclusions and recommendations.
4
