Page 16 ■ Equipment Cleaning and Decontamination —a pressure washer will be used to decontaminate equipment prior to servicing or major repairs. A designated area will be used to collect water as well as greases, oils and other contaminants. Soil that becomes contaminated as a result of cleaning and decontamination shall be collected in bins and shipped off site to an appropriate facility for waste disposal. Soils in the area will be sampled and tested to ensure all contaminants have been removed from the site. ■ Equipment Fueling and Servicing —fuel spills shall be minimized by using catch pans below the fill ports on equipment. Off site "wet hose" services are planned to eliminate bulk storage requirements for fuel at the construction site. Soil that becomes contaminated as a result of spillage shall be collected in drums and shipped off site to an appropriate facility for waste disposal. Additionally, used oil and filters will be stored in drums on containment pallets, covered when not in use, and transported to an appropriate facility for disposal. ■ Equipment Maintenance— an equipment servicing area is designated for all major component replacement and repair. Equipment staged in that area will incorporate catch pans, plastic sheeting and other suitable measures used to contain fluids and wastes generated by repairs. Soil that becomes contaminated as a result of spillage shall be collected and transported to an appropriate facility for waste disposal. ■ Other— in the event other unplanned pollution occurs, containment will be the first priority. Soil that becomes contaminated as a result of spillage shall be collected and shipped off site to an appropriate facility for waste disposal. 500.3.9 Waste Management & Materials Pollution Control An inventory of construction activities, materials and wastes is provided in Section 5.3.1. The BMP Consideration Checklist in Attachment C and the following list indicates the BMP's that have been selected to control construction wastes and materials. A narrative description of each BMP follows: ■ Material Delivery, Storage and Use—watertight shipping containers shall be used for all loose items requiring storage at the construction site. Plastic pipe, fencing materials and other items that require staging shall be placed on dunnage to eliminate ground contact, and shall be covered with sheeting or tarps when not in use. ■ Solid Waste Management—a dumpster will be located at the site throughout the course of the project. It shall be used to collect all non-hazardous solid waste and will be routinely serviced by a local trash service, and shall remain covered when not in use. ■ Liquid Waste Management - drums used for the collection of used oils and fluids collected from equipment during servicing shall be stored on a containment pallet, and covered with sheeting or tarps when not in use.
