DRAFT
IV.Fire Prevention
The growth of weeds and vegetation on the sites is minor and is not considered
to be a fire hazard. However, caution will be exercised during the suppression
such that minor brush will not become a fire hazard in the exclusion zone. If,
during the fire suppression, an incident should occur, the following guidelines will
be adhered to:
In the event of a fire or explosion, the local fire department
shall be summoned immediately. (Call 911)
1) As soon as the initial fire alarm warning to on-site personnel is completed and
evacuation is underway, outside assistance will be immediately requested if
deemed necessary by the Site Manager or any other on-site employee.
2) Personnel not directly involved in the on-site emergency response procedures
will evacuate to an area upwind of the fire at a pre-designated assembly point. If
the fire can be extinguished with available heavy equipment (i.e. dozers and
water trucks), the designated fire fighting personnel closest to the fire will attempt
to extinguish the fire. This will be attempted only if there is minimum risk to the
personnel involved.
VI. Insects, Snake and Black Widow Spider Bites.
All employees in contact with debris must wear gloves and safety shoes at all
times, in addition to level B safety gear where applicable.
Snakes and Black Widow spiders should be expected in debris piles. None
were spotted during the site investigation, although caution should be exercised.
In the event of a bite, summon assistance immediately. Notify assistance to
prepare transportation to the hospital. Apply first aid immediately.
First Aid: Have patient lie down right away. Apply a bandage (loose tourniquet)
around arm or leg above bite. If a cloth is used wrap it around the limb and tie a
half-knot, place a short stick on the half-knot; tie a full knot over the stick; twist
the stick. The pulse in blood vessels below the bandage should not disappear,
nor should the bandage cause a throbbing sensation. Take patient to emergency
room at hospital immediately.
