SIGNS <br />Signs will be posted near the entrance of Austin Road Landfill <br />which clearly state the types of wastes that are not accepted at <br />the site. In addition to stating that hazardous wastes are not <br />acceptable, examples will be given in non-technical language. <br />Such examples include flammable liquids, explosives, pesticides, <br />acids, caustics, poisons, and waste chemicals. <br />B. PRE -NOTIFICATION OF COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL COLLECTORS <br />Commercial and industrial collectors will receive mailed notices <br />from the City containing the following general information: <br />o Hazardous and certain other types (as described in the notice) <br />of wastes are not accepted at the Austin Road Landfill and <br />should not be placed in refuse containers for collection. <br />• A load -checking program is in effect at the site for <br />detecting hazardous and other unacceptable wastes. <br />• If hazardous or other unacceptable wastes are delivered to <br />the Austin Road landfill, the waste producer will be billed <br />for the removal and disposal of such wastes in approved <br />facilities. <br />o There are Federal and State pt-nalties for the impropei, <br />disposal of hazardous and certain ot-hel- types ,Df waste. <br />C. OBSERVATION BY SITE PERSONNEL <br />In addition to observations for hazardous wastes that are - <br />conducted in the load -checking program, all. the c(­)ntr,=tct.or'L--i <br />site operating personnel will be tra 4 ned and directed tc-) <br />identify potentially harmful wastes that may be delivered tc. <br />the site. These personnel include supervisors, We4gjj Sta-iC)r', <br />or gate keeper attendants, and equipment operators. The <br />equipment operators will play a particularly v.911,11abIe role <br />in observing wastes as they are spread and exposed on the <br />working face of the landfill. <br />Page 4 <br />
