• 3 4 Geoprobe Soil Sampling
Three proposed Geoprobe locations are depicted on Figure 2 The locations were selected to be as
close as possible to areas previous found to have petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil One-inch
diameter steel probes will be directly pushed into the ground Each probe will be advanced to
approximately 15 feet bgs Continuous soil core samples will be collected from the Geoprobe
sampler and sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps The soil samples will be labeled with the
appropriate borehole information, time and date of collection, and placed in cooled storage for
subsequent transport and analysis at a State of California certified analytical laboratory Cham-of-
custody procedures will be followed at all times Selected soil samples (approximately 3 soil samples
per boring)will be analyzed using U S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 8015/8020
for TPHg and BTEX In addition, a soil sample from each boring will be analyzed for both
contaminant utilizing bacteria and total heterotrophic bacteria After sampling, each boring will be
backfilled with bentonite and the surface restored to match existing conditions
fDuring drilling all soil samples and drill core will be logged by a SECOR geologist utilizing the
Unified Soil Classification System In addition, all soil samples and drill core will be screened utilizing
a photoionization detector (PID) or equivalent device to evaluate for the presence of petroleum
hydrocarbons These readings and any subjective evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons will be
recorded on the boring logs
3 5 Waste_Handline
During Geoprobe operations, sampling tools, and down hole equipment will be steam cleaned prior
to use The rinsate water and soil generated during the Geoprobe operations will be stored on-site
in approved containers pending laboratory analysis and evaluation for proper disposal
Toc15a wvxaecoa
N0005 00I 01 3 14-117 1996
