Samples are collected using a simple random sampling strategy. Equipment used for <br /> sampling consist of stainless steel or aluminum trowels or container. Prior to collecting <br /> the daily samples, the equipment is cleaned using a liquinox/distilled water wash followed <br /> by a distilled water rinse. Cleaning is performed in separate clean 5-gallon plastic buckets <br /> or similar containers. Cleaning buckets are dedicated to this task and discarded if they <br /> become permanently soiled. <br /> The sampling methodology outlined in this AMP describes the general procedures and <br /> methods for sample collection, logging, control, and submittal for laboratory analysis. <br /> 10.1.1.1 STORAGE SILO ALIQUOTS <br /> The sampling frequency outlined in this AMP includes collection of aliquots during freefall <br /> from the storage silo into the truck. Fly ash is sampled by collecting a minimum of 100 <br /> grams of material, a minimum of eight (8) random passes across the freefall line of ash <br /> as it is deposited into the truck. A master sample control log will be maintained that <br /> documents the date of sample collection, sample type (fly or bottom), truck number, name <br /> and initials of sampler, sample ID number, and a column for comments on the sample. <br /> Following collection, the samples will be maintained and submitted for laboratory analysis <br /> under proper chain of custody procedures. <br /> 10.1.1.2 INDIVIDUAL TRUCK ALIQUOTS <br /> A minimum of four (4) of the samples from each truck will be analyzed as outlined below: <br /> • TTLC and STLC Metals lead and arsenic via EPA Method 60106. <br /> • TCLP for lead via EPA Method 1311. <br /> • pH via EPA Method 9040, EPA Method 9045 (calcareous procedure not used) or <br /> other approved test method described in SW-846. (DTES will analyze more than <br /> four (4) samples if SW-846, Table 9-1, Equation 8, provides that a higher number <br /> of samples is appropriate.) <br /> The remaining four (4) samples will be retained on site in the event additional laboratory <br /> analyses are necessary. One (1) of the four samples will have California Title 22 metals <br /> (also called CAM 17) metals analysis. This is to confirm other metals, other than those <br /> outlined below, are below regulatory limits. The metals listed below are more likely to be <br /> present in the ash at higher concentrations than the rest of the CAM 17 metals. <br /> 10.2 FLY ASH STATISTICAL ANALYSIS <br /> The individual truck aliquots results will be used to calculate an 80% confidence interval <br /> for each truck (with the exception of the CAM 17 metals).
