splashes,immersion,or the potential for unexpected inhalation of or contact with hazardous levels of any <br /> chemicals. <br /> Type of Protection: Hard hats, steel toed boots, ear protection,eye protection,and appropriate gloves. <br /> 3.2.2 Required Protection <br /> Employees will be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment as required. National Institute <br /> for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)and Mine Safety and Health Act(MSHA)certified respiratory <br /> protective equipment will be utilized. Level D with the ability to upgrade to Level C will be employed <br /> during all activities. Respirators will be donned when PID readings exceed background levels in the <br /> exclusion zone as listed in Section 3.1. <br /> Individuals who do not have or who do not properly wear the required personal protective equipment will <br /> either not be allowed in the exclusion zone or will be asked to leave the exclusion zone until they can procure <br /> and properly wear the required protective equipment. In addition any individual who may be required to <br /> wear a respirator must be medically qualified,successfully fit tested,and properly trained in respirator use. <br /> HEAD PROTECTION <br /> Personnel will be required to wear a hard hat during field activities such as drilling,soil excavation,or steam <br /> cleaning while on the job site.The hat must be worn properly and not altered in any way that would lessen <br /> the degree of protection offered. Hard hats must meet American National Standards Institute (ANSI) <br /> Standard Z89.1. <br /> FOOT PROTECTION <br /> Steel-tip safety boots are required for on-site personnel. Safety boots must meet ANSI Standard Z41.1/75. <br /> Where potential exposure to chemical hazards exist,employees will be required to wear suitable chemical <br /> resistant rubber boots and/or overshoes. <br /> EYE PROTECTION <br /> Eye protection is required to prevent eye injuries resulting from contact with chemicals or physical agents. <br /> Safety glasses with side shields are the minimum required eye protection to be worn by onsite personnel. <br /> Safety eye wear must meet ANSI Standard Z87.1. Contact lenses will not be worn on-site.Individuals who <br /> have any chemical or chemically contaminated material splashed in the eye(s) must immediately rinse the <br /> eye(s) for a minimum of 15 minutes. <br /> NOISE PROTECTION <br /> The control of occupational noise exposures will comply with California Code of Regulations(CCR),Title <br /> 8, 5095.
