No gasoline-range hydrocarbons, grease, PCBs, VOCs, or
SVOCs were detected . With the exception of an elevated total lead concentration, metals
concentrations appeared to be consistent with naturally occurring concentrations.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE
The objective of this project is to conduct a Remedial Action involving excavation of hydrocarbon-
impacted soil in the area of former USTs. It is proposed that hydrocarbon-impacted soils be
excavated to meet the requirements for closure criteria contained in the State Water Resources
Control Board's Low- Threat Underground Tank Case Closure Policy.
The scope of services proposed for this remedial action is as follows:
Using an excavator, hydrocarbon-impacted soils around and beneath the former UST
locations would be excavated. When field indications suggest that impacted soils have been
removed , up to five (5) confirmation soil samples will be collected from the excavation's
bottom and sidewalls. Two sidewall samples will be collected at a depth approximately five
feet below surface grade and the other two sidewall samples will be collected at a depth
approximately 10 feet below surface grade. The remaining confirmation sample will be
collected from the bottom of the excavation , presumably at a depth no greater than 20 feet.
Confirmation samples will be analyzed for the presence and concentration of total lead by
EPA Method 6020.
Excavation activities will be considered complete when analytical results of the confirmation
samples meet the following conditions:
o combined TPH concentrations are less than 100 mg/kg ,
o benzene, ethylbenzene and naphthalene concentrations in the upper 5 feet are no
greater than 1 .9, 21 mg/kg and 9.7 mg/kg , respectively,
o benzene, ethylbenzene and naphthalene concentrations between 5 and 10 feet are no
greater than 2 .8, 32 mg/kg and 9 .7 mg/kg , respectively,
I
I
