4 7oQER 3 io`1.
Handling hazardous spills
When hazardous product results in a spill, the items used to clean up the spill must be
included in the hazardous waste bag. If this is not done, an inspector would have to assume
that the items used for cleanup went into the trash or dumpster, which is a serious violation.
1. Put on disposable gloves.
2. Pour absorbent over the spill, and let it sit until the spill has been completely absorbed.
3. Bag and seal the item, absorbent, paper towels, gloves, and any other cleaning supplies
in a hazardous waste bag.
4. Bag and seal the bag in a second hazardous waste bag.
5. Use a permanent marker to write the name of the item and NDC (National Code)
on the bag. Drug
6. Place the item in the tote.
Weekly inspections
To ensure hazardous waste is being handled and stored correctly, the hazardous waste
accumulation area must be inspected on a weekly basis using the Weekly Hazardous Waste
Storage Area Inspection form.
1. Once a week, the Pharmacy Manager obtains
the clipboard containing the current Weekly
Hazardous Waste Storage Area Inspection
Form from the accumulation area.
2. The Pharmacy Manager writes the current
date on the form.
3. With the clipboard in hand, the Pharmacy
Manager inspects the accumulation area for
the following:
a. The area is organized, accessible and
properly signed (poster, training guide,
program binder, Pharmacy Training
Guide, EPA ID number/HazMat permit)
b. The area is clean, free of spills and leaks.
c. The area and tote are properly labeled.
d. Waste is properly bagged within the tote.
e. The tote is sealed with a tight -fitting lid.
Weeny Naarxus Mate Staag=Area Inspe,•UM F
Sbte s__
f' 'B /,
IY
/'1
A d /
 /
r
 i
e
f.F'`4aiP rt° f• l°F % /f/a`' ,
cv, v, o..n.
