Near the center of the former coal stockpile in Parcel 1 (B-1);
Near the center of the former coal and petroleum coke stockpile area in Parcel 2 (B-2);
Near the center of the former copper concentrate stockpile in Parcel 3 (B-3); and
Under the point of worse case observed spillage from each of the four conveyors (B-4
through B-7).
The exact locations of the former stockpiles and points were material commonly falls off of the
conveyors will be discussed with Metropolitan Stevedore, and boring locations will be modified if
appropriate. From each of the seven hand auger borings, two relatively undisturbed soil samples will be
collected from near the ground surface (0 to 6 inches below ground surface (bgs), and from the capillary
fringe (expected between 7 and 10 feet bgs). Soil samples will be analyzed by a California certified
laboratory for the following constituents:
CAM metals - STLC - EPA 6010 or 200.7;
Chlorinated Pesticides and PCB's - EPA 8080;
Organophosphate Pesticides - EPA 8140; and
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) - EPA 418.1.
Task 3 - Groundwater Investigation
This task will consist of the drilling, installation, development, and sampling of four groundwater
monitoring wells. Drilling, well completion, development and sampling protocols are presented in
Appendix B. Proposed groundwater monitoring wells will be located as shown on Figure 1. Well
locations will be coordinated with Metropolitan Stevedore to avoid interference with planned future
development of the parcels. The original proposal (April 4, 1991) outlined locations based on a
groundwater gradient direction being generally toward the Stockton Deep Water Channel. Since submittal
of that proposal, additional information was obtained which indicated that the groundwater gradient
direction is actually away (south- southwest) from the Stockton Deep Water Channel. This proposal has
been modified to account for the new gradient information. One background (upgradient) groundwater
monitoring well (MW-1) will be located in the northeast corner of the portion of Parcel 3 which is south
of the tracks. Downgradient groundwater monitoring wells will be located downgradient of the proposed
sulphur stockpile in Parcel 1 (MW-2), the proposed copper concentrate stockpile in Parcel 2 (MW-3), and
the existing petroleum coke stockpile in Parcel 3 (MW-4). County well installation permits will be
obtained prior to the implementation of this task.
PROP06.005 4
DAMES & MOORE
