• k" K L E IN F E L D E R
During the advancement of the borings, soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals for
lithologic classification and qualitative field screening, with an organic vapor analyzer (OVA).
The OVA measures ionizable compounds in air in parts per million by volume (ppmv).
Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
In accordance with PHS/EHD policies, at this time we propose to submit two soil samples for
quantitative chemical analyses from each four soil borings. The samples will be collected in the
sample intervals just above first estimated groundwater. Currently, based on our experience, we
anticipate groundwater in the vicinity of the project site to be present at a depth of approximately
15 to 20 feet bgs.
After collection, the soil samples will be labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody, and immediately
stored in an iced cooler. The sixteen soil samples will be submitted to a State certified laboratory
and analyzed for the following analyses:
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons(Gasoline Range) [TPH-G] by EPA Method 8015M
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method 8015M/8020M
• Oxygenates by EPA Method 8260
• Methanol using Industrial Solvent Scan by EPA Method 8015M
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons(Fuel Fingerprint)by EPA Method 8015M
The samples will be analyzed on a normal laboratory schedule requiring approximately two weeks
(ten working days) for completion unless the optional rush analytical turnaround is requested by the
client at an additional charge.
Following completion of the drilling, a 2-inch diameter PVC well will be installed in each of the
borings. The well will be constructed as described in Attachment B. The wells will be surveyed for
well location and elevation above mean sea level(msl) so that subsequent water level sounding data
can be utilized in determining groundwater flow directions and gradient as described in Attachment
B.
2.3 MonitorinE Well Development and Sampling
Forty-eight hours after installation, the three new wells will be developed to remove sediment-laden
water and to increase the hydraulic radius of each well. Development will be performed as
described in Attachment B.
Water level measurements will be made in the wells at the beginning of the sampling round prior to
purging and sampling the wells. The depth to groundwater will then be measured in each well
according to the protocol described in Attachment B. The depth to groundwater measurements will
then be converted to relative groundwater elevations with respect to mean sea level or a local
benchmark by subtracting them from the surveyed casing elevations.
C20-3978-03.MTG/2002P134 Page 2 of 6
Copyright 2002,Kleinfelder,Inc.
