31 January 2013
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0926
10.4. IAS/SVE REMEDIATION START-UP PERIOD
During the IAS/SVE start-up period (first week of operation), influent and effluent air-flow
vapor samples will be collected on a daily basis and submitted for laboratory analysis of
TPH-g, BTEX and MTBE to monitor hydrocarbon destruction efficiency; during this time,
SVE operational parameters including soil-vapor concentrations, flow, vacuum and
temperature will be monitored on a daily basis to gauge the optimal destruction rate of
recovered hydrocarbon vapors. Additionally, flow measurements will be collected from the
air-sparging unit. Following the IAS/SVE start-up period, vapor samples will be collected
on a monthly basis, and the IAS/SVE operational parameters will be monitored on a weekly
basis to monitor cleanup progress.
10.5. IAS/SVE MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE
Following the initial 'start-up' periods, influent and effluent soil vapor samples will be
collected on a monthly basis and submitted to a State of California Department of Public
Health Services (CDPH)-certified laboratory for analysis of the following constituents:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with
EPA Method 8015 Modified; and
Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl
ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
To gauge the effectiveness of the IAS operation, periodic groundwater monitoring events
will be performed in accordance with the currently directed EHD sampling schedule. In
addition to standard monitoring and sampling procedures, AGE staff will collect multi-meter
readings from all wells at the site, which will include dissolved oxygen and oxygen
reduction potential.
Laboratory reports for vapor sample analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation
will be presented in quarterly reports.
The IAS/SVE remediation system will be maintained on a weekly basis according to
manufacturers recommendations (i.e. lubrication, oil changing, system adjustments, etc.).
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
