Tree and Shrub Plantings (Riparian and Upland). The tree and shrub plantings are
primarily for screening purposes; therefore, there are no -net -loss objectives. Native
tree and
plantings shrub plantings will improve wildlife habitat
ton maintenance of their screening
nce
criteria for the tree and shrub p g shall be based
function.
Each tree and shrub shall be evaluated annually for general health. For the measure
to be considered successful, at least 50 percent of the plantings should be considered healthy
and capable of growing without irrigation within 5 years. The drip -irrigation system will be
checked for malfunctions and necessary adjustments shall to recommendwhether theearigation system
. After 2 years,
the biological monitor shall make a recommendation as
should be removed.
Hydrologic Monitoring
Wetland hydrology shall be monitored when the grading for the vernal pools, wetland
swales, and marshes have been completed and there has been sufficient precipitation to fill
the existing wetlands onsite. Water depths shall rnalbe m pools, measured
andhmarshes after thle wet season in
created, protected, and selected unprotected p
wetland hydrology has been determined. The depth measurements shall be taken from
those sites selected for vegetation monitoring as identified f the above.
samhes.approximate
depths and
of ponding and soil saturation shall be recorded
periods of saturation in the created wetlands shall be compared with undisturbed wetlands
to determine if hydrology in the created wetlands is similar to that of the undisturbed
wetlands.
Monitoring Schedule
The monitoring schedule is designed to assist the biological monitor in implementing
the monitoring program. The schedule is divided
sks that erformanceess criter a, mon toning
goals of
the program, including collecting baseline data to establishP
wetland creation and revegetation efforts, and preparing the annual monitoring report. A
suggested time frame for accomplishing the monitoring tasks is shown in Table 10.
Reporting Results
The results of the monitoring program shall be summarized in annual reports for a
period of 5 years. Each annual report shall describe and interpret the results of the
previous year's monitoring; include representative photographs of each sample site; evaluate
the success to date of mitigation measures relative to mitigation performance standards;
56
