Boring Permit Application
TRACY HILLS SITE — PROPOSED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
WKA No. 10137.04P
February 22, 2018
Page 2
Underground Utility Clearance
WKA will mark each soil boring (soil gas sampling probe) location using white paint/flagging and
contact Underground Service Alert (USA) a minimum of 72 hours before beginning field
activities.
Field Methods
WKA will utilize Global Information System software to locate the seven sets of soil gas
sampling probes installed at depths of five feet bgs and 10 feet bgs and two temporary
monitoring wells along the southern property boundary of the Site (Figure 5). The locations of
the 14 soil gas sampling probes and temporary monitoring wells will be loaded in the GPSr.
Subsurface soil conditions will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS) under the direct oversight of a qualified civil engineering or geology
professional. Lithologic logs will be prepared for all borings. A photoionization (PID)
detector will be used to field screen soil for volatile petroleum hydrocarbons encountered
in the soil borings.
Soil samples will be collected continuously using four-foot long acetate sleeves that are
placed inside the drill rods. The acetate sleeves will be retrieved from the drill rods and
a 12-inch section will be cut from each sleeve. Soil samples collected during installation
of the soil gas sampling probes may be submitted to the analytical laboratory for
chemical analyses if field observations and/or field monitoring instrumentation indicate
possible soil contamination.
Nitrile gloves will be worn during sample collection and replaced with a new pair
between sample locations. Sample collection equipment will be decontaminated
between sample locations by washing in a solution of deionized water and Alconox then
rinsing three times with deionized water.
Investigative derived waste (soil cuttings and rinsate water) will be placed into 55-gallon
steel drums. The drums will be labeled, sealed, and stored on-site pending results of
laboratory analyses.
Soil Borings and Soil Sample Collection
WKA will utilize the services of a C-57 licensed drilling contractor equipped with a track-
mounted drill rig to advance seven soil borings to a depth of 10 feet bgs along the southern
property boundary. The soil borings will be advanced using three-inch diameter direct push
continuous core drill rods. Soil samples will be collected continuously into acetate sleeves
