Health and Safety Plan <br />705 Carlton Avenue, Stockton, CA <br />EFI Global Project No. 9836003958 <br />Pipe shall not be used as a substitute for wrenches. <br />Only appropriate tools shall be used for the job. <br />Appropriate PPE shall be used when using tools. <br />Wrenches shall not be altered by the addition of handle-extensions or "cheaters." <br />Files shall be equipped with handles and not used to punch or pry. <br />A screwdriver shall not be used as a chisel. <br />Wheelbarrows shall not be pushed with handles in an upright position. <br />Portable electric tools sha 11 not be lifte d or lowe red by m eans of the power cord. Ropes shall be <br />used. <br />Electric cords shall not be exposed to damage from vehicles. <br />In locations where the use of a portable power tool i s difficult, the tool shall be supported by means <br />of a rope or similar support of adequate strength. <br />11.2 ILLUMINATION <br />Supplemental lighting shall be supplied to provide not less than 3 foot-candles of illum ination in all work <br />areas. Higher levels may be required as prescribed by 29 CFR 1910.120 (m). <br />11.3 SANITATION <br />An adequate supply of potable water will be provided on the site in enclosed containers. Toilet facilities will <br />be supplied in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 (n). Adequate washing facilities and change rooms will be <br />available for all site workers as specified in 29 CFR 1910.120 (n)(6) and (7). <br />11.4 VENTILATION <br />Adequate ventilation will be supplied to reduce d ust and supply fresh air for workers working withi n <br />enclosures. <br />11.5 EXCAVATION <br />If excavation is encountered, work within and around an excavation shall conform to the following: <br />Work in any trench or excavation MUST be under the direct supervision of a Competent Person, as <br />defined by OSHA in 29 CFR 1926.32(f), with experience in this type of work. <br />Proper trench and excavation procedures shall be followed. A trench or excavation m ust b e <br />inspected prior to entry to ensure that it is safe. <br />Means of egress must be provided for any trench deeper than 4 feet. Ladders must be placed at each <br />end and must not be further than 25 feet apart. Ladders shall ex tend 36" above the <br />opening/surrounding ground and be secured. <br />Trenches and excavations deeper than 5 feet must be sloped, shored, or shielded. <br />Spoils and loose tools that are not tied down m ust be kept at least 2 feet fr om the edge of the <br />excavation. <br />Warning signs and appropriate barricades must be posted around all open excavations and trenches. <br />EFI Global <br />Engineering Fire & Page 11 of 19
