TOPIC: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN POLICY/PROCEDURE: SM 2.0.02 <br /> CIVIL UNREST GUIDELINES: <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To provide continuity of patient care and employee safety in the event of civil unrest. <br /> POLICY: <br /> Guidelines for what to do in case of civil unrest will he reviewed annually with each employee. <br /> PROCEDURE: <br /> In the event of civil unrest which could hamper respiratory therapy and delivery of supplies,the following <br /> procedures will be followed: <br /> 1.0 Obtain information from radio and/or TV <br /> 2.0 Police should be called for additional information. <br /> 3.0 Supervisors and/or department directors will convene to decide if deliveries can be made <br /> EARTHQUAKE GUIDELINES: <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To provide continuity of patient care and employee safety in the event of an earthquake. <br /> POLICY: <br /> 1.0 If you are INDOORS during an earthquake: <br /> 1.01 Stay indoors <br /> 1.02 Take cover under a desk or table and hold on <br /> 1.03 Stay clear of windows,light fixtures or any objects that could fall <br /> 2.0 If you are OUTDOORS during an earthquake: <br /> 2.01 Get into the open-away from buildings so as to avoid falling debris,glass,bricks,and power lines. <br /> 3.0 If you're in a VEHICLE during an earthquake: <br /> 3.01 Pull over and stop away from bridges,overpasses,buildings,and overhead power Iines. <br /> 3.02 Stay in the car. <br /> 4.0 After the earthquake has stopped: <br /> 4.01 Check employees for injuries;render first aid as needed. <br /> 4.02 Remain calm and assure others. <br /> 4.03 Avoid broken glass. <br /> 4.04 Check Western Drug Medical Supply building for fire,gas leaks,and exposed electrical lines.If damaged, <br /> shut off services. <br /> 4.05 Replace all telephone receivers;do not use phone except for emergencies. <br /> 4.06 Listen for emergency radio or TV bulletins. <br /> 4.07 Stay out of damaged buildings. <br /> 4.08 If damage is severe,each department will assess its own area and report findings to the Administrator or <br /> designee. <br /> 4.09 Department Directors or designees will implement disaster plan to secure patient records and medications. <br /> 4.10 Administrator or designee will activate the telephone tree and begin the review of acuity levels of patients. <br />
